Power of God III / Be Cool (Jun. 21-25)

1 Light, space, zest—
    that’s God!
So, with him on my side I’m fearless,
afraid of no one and nothing.

When vandal hordes ride down
    ready to eat me alive,
Those bullies and toughs
    fall flat on their faces.

When besieged,
    I’m calm as a baby.
When all hell breaks loose,
    I’m collected and cool.

I’m asking God for one thing,
    only one thing:
To live with him in his house
    my whole life long.
I’ll contemplate his beauty;
    I’ll study at his feet.

That’s the only quiet, secure place
    in a noisy world,
The perfect getaway,
far from the buzz of traffic.

Psalm 27:1-5 MSG

Psalm 27 is an amazing chapter/poem written by King David that everyone should read. David worships God and praises how he behaves when he’s near God.

The main themes and takeaways are how calm he is about being in crazy situations. He says,

When besieged (surrounded by killers, vandals, etc),
    I’m calm as a baby.
When all hell breaks loose,
    I’m collected and cool.

That’s pretty bold! Not many of us have been hunted by men on horseback, but we do have our own moments of terror and anxiety. How do we react in those moments?

How calm are you when finances are running low?

How cool are we when our families are dividing right in front of us?

It’s hard to compare, but the main point is - we need to do what David did, how was he so calm? He trusted God. He trusted his power, he trusted him as a father, as a provider, as a supplier. That’s what we need to do. We can start today, we can give ourselves, our problems, our battles to God. All it takes is a small discussion with God. He’s ready to listen, He’s ready to see you relax.
