AUG 3 - What Things?
14 As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. 16 But God kept them from recognizing him.
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?”
They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. 18 Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.”
19 “What things?” Jesus asked.
Jesus was dead and placed in a tomb, and people didn’t understand what was next.
He said he’d wake back up in three days, but people weren’t so sure.
Suddenly he came back, very quietly and secretly. He was interested in what people thought so he stumbled into this conversation with two of his followers.
This concept is amazing, because a divine and perfect God who knows all things, who died and resurrected is very, very interested in what you think about him.
He asked them:
“What things?”
You might come home tired, from a long day of work and pray to God:
“Lord, I’m exhausted, things haven’t been so easy.” Jesus would say: “What things?”
You might be in a troubling situation, you might be in a very upsetting problematic process:
“God help me with these things,“ Jesus would say “What things?”
This is Jesus.
Jesus is very uniquely interested in what you think, what you need, who you are, what’s upsetting you, what makes you happy, God knows. But he wants to hear that you know, and that you can trust him.
Are these things you’re facing alone?
Do you need help praying and bringing these things to Jesus?
What do you think of God’s attention and how important is it for you to understand?
