1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:1-5 NIV

7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 2:7 NIV

Anything God creates, he designs it to succeed.

Many times, we’ll feel very distant from this reality. Often it’s going to be hard to understand, even harder to believe. God wants us to know that life itself is the light, and the light will not be overcome by darkness.

19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

John 3:19-21 NIV

Jesus explains to Nicodemus.

Living by light is living by truth.

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

John 14: 5-6 NIV

The Bible tells us in Genesis, life was the light of all mankind. So it isn’t life itself, it’s Life + Jesus. Our true essence of life itself is knowing Jesus. Knowing what he sounds like, knowing how he loves us, knowing how good he will continue to be.
