The Strongholds Against Us

3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 NIV

Each of us have been equipped with weapons, not swords or guns. But still, they are uniquely powerful. In fact, the Bible says they have the power to demolish strongholds.

Definition of Stronghold

1: a fortified place

2a: a place of security or survival

Paul knew what we was talking about, he had a great understanding of the weapons of the world. He knew the Romans, they way they fought, what they used. But he still says, God’s weapons are divine.

There is power in prayer, and since we’re in Hands for War mode. We have to use them, we have the authority to break chains in our group.

This message is a better D12. But still, check out the MSG translation of the same verse.

But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 MSG

What are we fighting against? Corrupt culture, warped philosophies, barriers set up against the truth of God.

Each of these things are affecting your group members, each of them affect us. You might not see their wars, but their families are giving them a hard time about coming to a Christian group, pop culture and the media are working day and night to seem Christ seem less relevant. THESE are strongholds. Let’s pray against them.

  1. Ask your group, have they noticed the ongoing attack on the church?

  2. Are their families onboard with them believing in Jesus?

  3. Do they have any prayer requests? (Sick family members, help in a situation, etc.)
