The Fight That's Worth It / #HFW (July 26-30)
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9 NIV
A few weeks ago we looked at the message Paul wrote Timothy about fighting the good fight. Today we’ll look at Paul encouraging the Galatians to NEVER get tired of doing good.
All of Galatians 6 is about doing good. But he gives them a subtle warning in 6:9, he says we’ll reap a harvest IF we do not give up. It’s not about being good just because Jesus tells us so, or Paul warns us, it’s about being good for a few reasons:
To be an example to those around us. Even other Christians.
Some of our closest friends and families still haven’t heard the gospel, maybe some have, but they know that you have. The only thing separating a Christian from the world should not be judging others, it should be with our conduct and example. This doesn’t mean to be religious around others. It means to be kind, giving, loving, encouraging. Maybe an unbeliever doesn’t need a verse today, maybe they just need someone to hear them out and to give them good advice.
Helping others through tough moments
We’re bound to hear about someone going through a tough time, how will you respond to that? What is your spirit guiding you to do? God is moved when we’re going through a tough time, we should be moved as well, it’s worth asking and knowing if the people around us are suffering, whether in secret or not. Helping others through difficult moments shouldn’t be rare, it should be standard Christian practice.
We will reap a harvest IF we don’t give up
Harvest to me might not be the same for you, maybe your harvest is money falling out of the sky. Maybe it’s the wellbeing of your family, whatever it is, the bible doesn’t tell us. But it does say there will be a lot of it. A harvest takes time to cultivate, grow and eventually gather, the only thing that matters is how many seeds the farmer has been planting and that we don’t give up, we don’t grow tired of doing good.
