A Light in the Darkness - Oct. 25-29

Message

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16

For Jesus to say that we are the light is a powerful statement. However he’s right, many people won’t meet Jesus, but they will meet you.

When people see you do they see a dim and covered light? In other words, are you struggling to show that you’re a christian? Is it easier to look like you’re a part of the world? If so, something’s gotta change. Not to make appearances, to seem more Christian in church, but to be the light the kingdom needs you to be.

Being a light is more about being authentic than saying you’re a good christian.

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

People need to see you as a Christian before they hear you. Before you share the gospel, people need to know you’re a Christian.

Discussion

Don’t answer these questions, but ask your close friends and family:

How do you treat others around you? How do you come off when you’re in school or work?

How do you sound when you talk? Do you come off as rude? Disrespectful?

Are you covering your light? Or does everyone see that you’re a Christian?
