"What Am I Supposed To Do?"
INTRO
We are living in times where one central question is constantly coming to mind – what am I supposed to be doing right now? If you turn on the news, social media, or talk to just about anyone they will respond with a laundry list of things the world expects or even demands of you.
The thing is – we were never called to turn to the world for our instructions. The bible is clear we have one job in the midst of “everything going on right now” and everything that has ever been going on: “…Go and make disciples…”
If in the last two weeks or two months you have asked yourself, “what’s my role in all of this?” “what am I supposed to be doing right now?” The answer is simple: Go. Make disciples. You have a unique voice, a unique circle that only you can successfully reach, a unique story to share. It isn’t meant to be kept quiet; it is meant to be shared. If Christ has saved you, your purpose isn’t some mystical distant question to be answered, it’s easily found in the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20 (MSG):
18-20 Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”
Ok, so you know what to do, now how to do it? Again, the word is our best place to turn for answers. How can I share my message in times like these when I’m not sure anyone will hear me?
Micah 6:8 (MSG)
“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.”
That’s it. Be fair and just to everyone you encounter, love well, and make sure you remember this is all for God’s glory and not your own.
