Doesn't Matter Who's Elected, You're Chosen

VERSE

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.

1 PETER 2:9-10 MSG

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

1 Peter 2:9-10 KJV

INTRO / DISCUSSION

It’s election week, and this week will determine who will lead this country for the next four years. We elect our leaders by voting, even if they’re not the options we want, they’re the ones we have. Electing is choosing a person to lead in a public office. Whether you like them, or if they have past sins or even if they stand for everything you don’t believe in.

However Peter is telling us how God chooses and what He chose us for. It’s hard to know exactly why God chose us, because at one point we’ve all fallen short. We’ve all sinned so technically we all chose to live life without God. But somehow along the way, God chose us. We received his word, we received Jesus in our hearts and now we have a new responsibility.

God could’ve looked at us, our past, our mistakes and yet he CHOSE to bypass it, to remove it, cleanse us, fix us. To God it’s not about left or right, democrat or republican, it’s simply about love. A father’s love for his children.

We’ve each gone from darkness into light, from rejected to accepted. It’s our responsibility to be the same way with others, as God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him.
