JULY 4 - The Path of Purity
9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.Psalm 119:9-11 NIV
Like many of us, the writer of this Psalm is trying to maintain their purity as a Christian. They highlight ways that have worked consistently for them and they all have to do with God’s word.
Let’s point out three actions they take that have helped them.
Living according to God’s word
Seeking God with all your heart
Hiding God’s word in your heart
As a christian, if you struggle with bad habits, sin, things that seem like they’re influencing you negatively no matter how hard you try. We have to understand, OUR ONLY DEFENSE from this world is the word of God.
Purity is a path, it’s a walk that we take to stay on it. We stay on it by living out God’s word.
God doesn’t hate us for falling, he doesn’t hate us for failing.
He loves that we’re trying.
He loves that we’re hoping.
But he really loves when we give up, and allow him to help us. Let’s not get prideful, let’s get desperate to get closer to God. He’s not looking for perfect prayers, he’s not looking for holy people.
He’s looking for willing people.
What are you dealing with?
What are you holding onto that you should let go of?
What’s keeping you from seeking God with all your heart?
