Look For God in Private! - Sept. 20-24 (Refuge & Strength Series)
10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.Isaiah 41:10 NIV
30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Mark 6: 30-31 NIV
Life is busy. School, work, hangouts, friends, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.
So many things keep us busy and distracted, so much so that it’s very hard to make time for God.
But Jesus, is asking us to look for him intentionally, not to pray, or hangout in God’s presence. Look at what the verse says:
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Mark 6: 31 NIV
Get some rest. How many of us just need to slow down, rest, maybe go on vacation? Those things are great and beneficial, but none will be as fulfilling as spending time with God alone. The prophet Isaiah says:
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.Isaiah 41:10 NIV
Strength and help, guaranteed. I’m not sure what you’re going through but none of are too good to pass on more strength and more help from God.
Practical ways to look for God:
Make time for God in the morning. It’s much better to think with a clear head as soon as you wake up, no phone, no distractions.
If you don’t know what to pray, try to write down how you’re feeling. A lot of times writing down prayers will also help. It’ll be good to look back and see how you’ve improved.
Slow down. God wants to work in you, but he needs time with you. Be intentional, doesn't have to be too crazy but try to cut things that are distracting you little by little.
