Calm In The Storm

VERSE

  • 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. - Matthew 8:23-26 NIV

  • 4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” - Psalm 34:4 NIV

INTRO

  • In this passage, the disciples saw what was around them. They focused on what was going on right at that moment and they were terrified. (Matt. 8:23-25)

  • Jesus called them “of little faith” because though they had seen numerous miracles happen, in that same chapter in fact, they were more overwhelmed with their circumstance than focused on who was in their boat. (Matt. 8:26)

  • The disciples probably took a longer time being scared and noticing that something was threatening their lives, than what Jesus took to calm the storm.

  • We don’t have to be perfect or put a fake front, it is normal to have uncertainty in our circumstances. However, we have to remember that we have Jesus in our boat and that as long as He is there our boat won’t go under. (Psalm 34:4)
