18 “Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

ISAIAH 43:18-19

It’s a new year! It’s a perfect time to forget the former things, and for us to not dwell on the past.

God reminds us of this in Isaiah 43, the question is: Do you not perceive it?

There are three things we have to ask ourselves:

  1. Are you actively paying attention to what God is doing?

  2. Are you praying for God to move?

  3. Are you repeating the same mistakes and dwelling in the past?

If we let it, we can remain stuck in the past and it can drag us down. Focusing on the past keeps us from looking forward to what God is doing. God is with us, he always has been but at times we burden ourselves with mistakes, sin, relationships, etc.

The God of the universe, has so much more planned for us.

I love how the next verse is:

I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

Do you know why it says that? Because God makes a way when there is no way. In the wilderness, there are no paths, paths have to be broken into for years. BUT, God can do it.

In the wastelands there are no rivers, wastelands and water do not mix, BUT God can do it.

Don’t focus on the past, especially if it drags you down. You can’t do the impossible, but God can do it.
